“Humanity is not an animal species: it is a historical reality” in 1999, these words by Simone de Beauvoir (1949) inspired the painting series Madonas de la Historia, at the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the new one. This work symbolizes the idea, that women have inherited a tradition of submission and hence have tried to build their universe through their husband and their children. The liberation of women means the liberation of cultural values. Only through cultural achievement could woman in history find personal transcendence.
